The Info
Michael Schenker has definitely made a very large mark on the world of heavy rock with bands like UFO and the Scorpions, not to mention his successes with his MSG project. This new release features Michael alongside Chris Logan on vocals, Reverand Jones on bass, and Jeff Martin on drums. The album is a good rock based platter with a lot of melody. It's not necessarily the MSG of the 80's with Robin McCauley, but is similar in structure.

The Music
All of the necessary elements of a good rock record are here. Good guitar work, very adequate vocals, and a great groove. The guitar sound on the album has a nice snarl to it as evidenced on the opening track 'No turning back'. The music is consistent throughout the album with only the intensity varying. Some of the tracks that I personally like include 'How will you get back', 'Age of ice' with it's great hooks, 'Standin' on the road' which is one of my favorites, 'On your way' which is my favorite' and the intense 'Reflection of your heart'. The rest of the music is good, but these tracks I feel stand out above the rest. Reverand Jones is great to have on the album. Some will know him from Black Symphony. The band should come across good in the live environment. There is enough attitude throughout the album. The attitude is the element that has been missing from domestic music in recent years. The 'have a good time' element is back.

Overall
This album is pretty good. I am a bigger fan of the McCauley era, but this is the start of something new for MSG and is worth checking out. I think it will agree with most fans of Schenker's music. The music is very catchy and the musicianship is solid. Michael is still proving to be one of the busiest guys in the biz!
The Info
M.ill.ion is one of Sweden's most promising exports, especially for fans of other European acts such as Pretty Maids and Gotthard. The music is fairly mainstream as one would expect with those comparisons. It can sound intense at times and melodic at others. This album is produced by Simon Hanhart and is available through the Uk's A2 Records label. The band has actually been aound for quite some time. This is the bands fourth full length release.

The Music
I wasn't familiar with the band until this new record. Was I ever surprised when I started spinning this disc. The music is very solid and really hangs in with some of the best European metal bands. The album blasts wide open with 'I'm your blood' which could easily be heard on a Pretty Maids album. My favorite track follows in 'I know your name'. This is pissed off music at it's best. Fairly fast tune which gives your adrenalin a serious rush. 'Stronger than ever' starts off light, but breaks open and will definitely please most fans. The songwriting on the album is awesome. The band seems to be burning on all cylinders. Other tracks I dig include 'Showstopper', the brilliant 'Even the Sun', 'Standing proud', the ultra cool 'Bonebreaker', the full throttle 'Race with the Devil', and the album closer 'No place like Hell'. There really aren't any weak moments on this disc. This band really has their chops down!

Overall
This is essential to say the least. This band is superb in approach and effectiveness. This release should really turn some heads. With all of the bands out there it can be hard to get noticed, but by spinning this disc, it will command attention. Definitely one of my favorite releases of 2001. Be sure and get this one. You'll be M.ill.ionized!
