Los Angeles, CA - Canadian drummer/percussionist SHANE GAALAAS, whose stellar resume includes a hard rock who's who in addition his own band ventures, Cosmosquad and Diesel Machine, is stepping out from behind his kit and stepping up to the plate in a big way with his first solo album, 'Primer'.
Written, performed, and recorded entirely by Gaalaas himself who, in true Dave Grohl fashion, handles drums, bass, lead and rhythm guitars, keyboards, as well as lead vocals, 'Primer' is a solid combination of metallic crunch' n' groove, infectious modern rock flavors, and introspective acoustic moments, topped off by Shane's often multi-layered vocal approach.
"I'm not a negative person but sometimes we have issues that can eat at us, kind of repressed turbulence. Using music was a great vehicle for me to exorcise my inner demons. Good therapy indeed!", reflects Gaalaas on the motivation behind the album. "I learned a lot about myself in the process. The whole 'Primer' experience has been very rewarding musically and emotionally. I hope people can read into it a little deeper - there really is a positive vibe there."
In related news, Gaalaas is about to hit North American soil with B'z, Japan's best selling rock band of all time, with sales approaching 90 million copies. The band are set to invade the US for a 10-day West Coast run of dates for a second year in a row. These shows also mark the group's first with Gaalaas' Cosmosquad band mate Barry Sparks on bass.
Dates are as follows:
Oct. 12 - Las Vegas, NV @ House of Blues
Oct. 14 - Hollywood, CA @ House of Blues
Oct. 15 - Hollywood, CA @ House of Blues
Oct. 18 - San Francisco, CA @ Fillmore
Oct. 19 - San Francisco, CA @ Fillmore
Oct. 21 - Seattle, WA @ Showbox
Oct. 23 - Vancouver, BC @ Commodore Ballroom

Canadian heavy metal rockers "HELIX" will license tracks from their upcoming CD "Rockin' In My Outer Space" for new season episodes of Alliance-Atlantis comedy series "Trailer Park Boys". TPB creator/director Mike Clattenburg will also feature the band in a promo on the next TPB DVD.
HELIX have been rocking for 30 years, releasing more than 10 albums, charting gold for Capitol Records and touring the world as openers for bands like "KISS".
Lead singer Brian Vollmer is the descendant of a US 'Circus Hall of Fame' acrobat and a classically-trained vocal coach, teaching 'Bel Canto', a style made popular during the 'Golden Age Of Opera', taught to him by Eduardo Johnson, the youngest member of the New York Metropolitan Opera.
This year and next, Vollmer is booked to sing with both the London and Kitchener Symphony Orchestras.
Starring in more than 15 rock music videos, Vollmer lives in the heart of London, Ontario aka 'The Forest City', in a Victorian-furnished 'Better Homes & Gardens' estate called 'Planet Helix' and is the author of upcoming rock bio "Gimme' An 'R'".
Gearing up for their 30th Anniversary Show, July 17th, 2004 in Brantford, Ontario, HELIX will play Toronto's Hard Rock Cafe, 279 Yonge Street on Thursday October 9, showcasing their classic heavy metal music from the 1970's and beyond.
